I wish I felt comfortable wearing…

by Elsa Termenon on January 13, 2012

Feeling very comfy in colors and hats...

This is the 3rd of my 30 Posts Challenge and this headline was a tricky one I have to say! Luckily I feel comfortable in most everything I want to wear and I had a really hard time coming up with something that could fit under this headline. I think as I’ve grown older I have much more accepted how I look and the body type that I have and I am pretty relaxed about getting dressed. One thing that came to my mind is wearing an all black outfit – that’s really something I do not feel comfortable wearing, because it’s just not me… but so, I can’t really say that I wish I felt comfortable in it, either…

A few years ago I might have answered this question with - high heels. I’m 5’10″ (178 cm) and I used to feel very uncomfortable wearing 4 inch heels being at least a head taller than my friends. But that insecurity about my height is something that I’ve also grown out of and now I wear heels all the time without such silly thoughts…

What do you wish you felt comfortable wearing?

At the Odd Lovin’ Showroom

by Elsa Termenon on January 11, 2012

A few weeks back when I was on my way to Paris I made a brief stop in Malmö in southern Sweden. There I was fortunate enough to be able to drop by my blog friend Minna and see the showroom of her newly opened online vintage store Odd Lovin’. The blogosphere is so strange and fantastic, because you connect with people you might never had met otherwise, and even though Minna and I had never met IRL it instantly felt like we had known each other for a long time.

She showed me around among all those vintage pieces and I was like hypnotized as you can imagine by all of the 70′s knitted ponchos, paisley patterned dresses and glamorous maxi gowns. That girl really has an eye for selecting great vintage pieces! Don’t forget to visit the shop here and also check out the Odd Lovin’ blog here. Now here are a few snapshots I took during my visit.

COS wool dress

by Elsa Termenon on January 8, 2012

If there’s something I love in winter it’s long sleeved dresses in warm materials. That’s why I fell in love with this heavy orange winter dress in 100% wool when I was in Paris. It’s from Swedish brand COS which I always make sure to check out on my trips to Europe since we don’t have it here in the US. But not only did the thick material and structured look convinced me to get this dress – the color of deep orange just was unlike anything in my wardrobe. I love how it kind of feels both like a dress you could wear for work or for a fancy party depending on the accessories.

And speaking of accessories – this beetle necklace from Spanish brand Bimba & Lola is a Christmas gift from my husband. I absolutely love it! It can make any dress or top so much more fun and interesting, don’t you agree? I first discovered Bimba & Lola in Madrid about a year ago and was really amazed by their beautiful accessories and shoes. They also have a full collection which was just so pretty! If you ever go to Spain, make sure not to miss this brand.

I’m wearing:

Orange wool dress – COS

Beetle necklace – Bimba & Lola

Bag – Chanel

Mary Janes – Vintage

A walk along the Seine

by Elsa Termenon on January 6, 2012

Even though the sky was grey and the rain was in the air we took a walk along the Seine one day, wandering small streets at Île Saint-Louis and Île de la Cité until we reached Notre Dame. I love to just wander around in a new city, with no particular plan, stopping at a bistro refueling with hot cocoa and just watch people pass by. And what better city do do exactly that than Paris?

Everywhere I looked I just wanted to reach for my camera to catch its beauty. Yes, I am already missing Paris so much, to the extent that I might just go to my local French bistro tonight and treat myself to a nice bouillabaisse. I wish you all a nice Friday evening and a great weekend!

Magical Paris

by Elsa Termenon on January 4, 2012

We’re back home now after a few magical days in Paris, we’ve bid our goodbyes to 2011 and welcomed the new year with excitement in this city of lights. I’ve fallen in love even more with Paris than before and after countless efforts to figure out exactly why I think I have it – Paris is just so beautiful regardless of season and weather. I know of no other city that has that magical way of seducing me. We had a few sunny days but mostly it was cloudy and drizzling and the wind was chilly. Still the old houses along the Seine looked like a painting or a postcard.

We spent our days moving from terrace to terrace and as most of them were covered and heated we could enjoy the view of the busy streets while having our coffee or lunch regardless of the weather. We of course did some shopping and saw a few sights (like the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame) but we also made sure to have many lazy mornings in bed, eating croissants from heaven (well actually from the Boulangerie next door). Here are a few snapshots from our magical days, more photos coming up soon so stay tuned…

Almost time to say goodbye for this time…

by Elsa Termenon on December 27, 2011

Ouups! I think I gave myself some blog-vacation by accident! It’s been a while since my last post, but I promise you that this sporadic blogging thing is soon to end! I have just been too caught up IRL, with Christmas, family and friends and I don’t feel bad for that at all. After all, I only see them once or twice per year so I really think it would be a shame to hide behind my laptop then. Christmas at my parents house has been magical, but now my time here has come to an end… tomorrow I’m heading for Malmö and on Thursday morning I’ll take the first morning flight to Paris for some fun days in La Ville-Lumière… The city of lights.

Now, if you happen to have some nice advice for me on what to do, see, eat and shop in Paris I’d really appreciate it! I have been before, and my husband has even lived there but we love to discover new gems.

Snapshots from around my parents house. We have compensated for the cold and dark days by spending a lot of time on front of the fireplace.

The days before Christmas

by Elsa Termenon on December 21, 2011

I can’t believe how these days right before Christmas has just flown by. I came to Sweden 12 days ago and it feels like yesterday! I have not had much time for blogging (sorry about that) but it’s been such a nice chance to have my family around so I have just enjoyed that as much as possible. I still have a week to go here, before I’m off to Paris, and I plan on enjoying it to the fullest – eating Swedish christmas foods, playing with my niece and meeting up old friends I haven’t seen in ages.

I hope you all have plenty of time to relax and just hang out in all of the stress that sometimes surrounds the holidays. I’m planning on doing exactly that, after I’ve finished wrapping the last gifts.

2011 and the places I saw

by Elsa Termenon on December 18, 2011

If you’ve read this blog a while you know that traveling is as big of an interest as style and fashion is for me. It has always been a big part of my life, to travel and discover new places, and 2011 was no exception. It has been a fantastic year of travels for me  and I’ve visited a great mix of big busy cities, warm places and relaxing spots on the country side. I thought I’d try to sum up this year and the places I saw in a few photos and sentences, now that we only have a few more weeks left of 2011.

Madrid, SPAIN

The year started in January with a trip to Madrid to renew our American visas. It was not my first time in this beautiful city but yet it felt like I saw it on a whole new way. I just soaked up the sunlight, the impressive architecture and cozy plazas where it was already warm enough to sit outside for a café con leche. We met friends and family in the Mercardo de San Miguel and had delicious oysters from Galicia, Rioja wine and incredible cheese.

Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA

In March I headed to “sunny California” and to Los Angeles. I’ve never seen so much rain in my life, the first three days it just poured down. After it cleared up I focused on vintage shopping at Jet Rag, Wasteland and American Vintage where I did some great finds! I explored Echo Park and Silverlake and all the cozy coffee shops and shops around.

San Francisco, CALIFORNIA

From LA I headed to San Francisco, excited as it was my first time in this charming city. I loved the pastel colored houses, the trams and the sushi in Japantown, yes the sushi in SF in general was just out of this world! We visited friends and had fresh sea food at the Fisherman’s Warf. Even though the wind was cold it felt like spring had arrived because the cherry blossoms were just about to bloom.

Basque Country, SPAIN

In early May we were once again headed to Spain, but this time to Basque Country in the north, where my husband is from. We went to a beautiful wedding where I wore this Kate Moss for Topshop dress and danced all night – nothing beats the weddings in Spain! Then we did a road trip seeing cities like Bilbao, Vittoria and San Sebastian on the Spanish side…

Pays Basque, FRANCE

… but the journey continued into the French side of Basque Country and we stayed in the beautiful beach town Biarritz. We had wine on the small bistros on the street and went to Saint Jean de Luz and had the best Moules Frites I’ve ever had in my life!

SWEDEN

In July I decided that my exile from my native Sweden had been long enough. After one year I was craving the Swedish simplicity and my mom’s home cooked meals. I went home and I had filmjölk at least twice per day during the five weeks that I spent over there (something that is impossible to find in the US). And I fell a little bit in love with Stockholm again when I spent a week there, with my friends.

COSTA RICA

In October we headed for a tropical vacay in beautiful Costa Rica. Being able to discover both the cloud forests and the untouched beaches of the Guanacaste region made this trip completely unforgettable. I can still recall the sounds of the forrest next to our cabin, the sound of the river that made me fall asleep like a baby at night, and the fresh air in the morning.

Now December is here and I’m back in Sweden to celebrate Christmas here with my family. I don’t have that many photos interesting enough to share yet as my time here mostly consists of eating, sleeping and lounging in front of the fireplace (hey I’m not complaining!). But this is actually not my last trip this year… right after Christmas I’m off to Paris to celebrate New Years Eve! I can’t think of a more beautiful or romantic place to end this year and to start off the new one with the one I love.

Stay Warm

by Elsa Termenon on December 16, 2011

Winter is all about layers and knits, right now I’m practically living in a vintage wool sweater and believe me – here in Sweden it’s quite necessary to wear an extra layer to stay warm. I prefer cashmere and wool sweaters, they are perfect for this kind of cold weather. Thermals are another life saving thing in this country – I wear them under sweaters or sleep in them at night. I could not survive without them!

But then of course my favorite way to keep myself warm is to just lounge in front of my parents fire place… How do you stay warm?

… Jane Birkin

I’m not alone in considering Jane Birkin one of my style icons. Her effortless and simple, 70′s bohemian style keeps a lot of people inspired til this day. I mean – who can pull off a black lace dress or a simple jeans and t-shirt look better than this woman? I love to channel her style getting dressed on an day to day basis, since her style is so uncomplicated and down to earth. When it comes to my hairstyle I think you also can tell that she has influenced me quite a lot. I love her not too perfectly cut fringe and slightly messy hair!

…and Abbey Lee Kershaw

Abbey Lee is not only one of my favorite models, she also has a fierce personal style! As opposed to the Jane Birkin style she goes for the more is more motto – which I live by myself. She mixes dark jewel colors with quirky accessories, goddess-like dresses with tomboyish boots. Her style is eclectic, fun and unpredictable! I once crossed her on the street in New York and it was like if suddenly everyone around her was in black and white except her – she just stood out from the crowd with her hypnotizing looks.

Ps. This is the 2nd of my 30 posts blog challenge
