¡Pura Vida!

by Elsa Termenon on November 18, 2011

Arriving at Punta Islita, on the coast of the beautiful Guanacaste region, was a nice change of scene after our days in the forrest. It felt well needed to change the cold mountain air for sunny and warm tropical days, and the hiking for lazy afternoons reading in the shade. It was everything I needed for a perfect vacation. We stayed at the Hotel Punta Islita, a place so beautiful it deserves a post on its own (coming soon!). We spend our days swimming the big waves of the ocean, reading in the shade while lazily sipping our coconut drinks. We visited the neighboring surf spot Samara and watched the surfers ride the waves while we enjoyed traditional casados for lunch. We went by boat to the deserted beach El Carillo seeing dolphins and big sea turtles playing in the water next to us.

One day we went horseback riding in the jungle and on the beach and the feeling of galloping with my horse (who’s name was Corazon) on the edge of the water, right when the sun was about to set, is something I lived on for days. It was the most amazing feeling of freedom and beauty! Another beautiful episode was walking on the beach at night seeing Olive ridley sea turtles coming up from the sea to lay their eggs on the beach, burying about 100 eggs or so before returning to the sea again.

We really had an amazing time – lazy days with a pinch of adventure, exactly what I like for vacation, that is Pura Vida for me!
