The ottoman coffee table

by Elsa Termenon on September 4, 2011

When we moved in to our house and started decorating we told ourselves we didn’t want a coffee table. We just wanted the space to be open to be able to lounge directly on the rug before the fire place. But as the months past we realized that we needed something. So we have been looking for some different types of tables but not found anything we’ve liked. Yesterday we dropped by West Elm and found this big upholstered ottoman in that deep burgundy red that I love! I really immediately knew that this was the perfect piece for completing our living room.

This ottoman is made out of traditional Indian hand woven dhurries (cotton rug) from the master rug weavers of Agra, India. It’s a one of a kind piece as each dhurrie is hand made with a different pattern. The frame is mango wood and it has small metal wheels on each leg. It feels great to have a piece of India as the center of attention of our living room and finally I don’t have to feel guilty for putting my feet on the “table”!! What do you guys think?

I won’t say yay or nay on this, since I don’t know how practical it would be. But I can tell it goes very well with your style and oriental taste :)
    I like it!

‘ we realized we needed something’ that is so true, your habits/needs change and so does your interior! we live for 5 years in our house and it is still not completely decorated and for me that is perfect. i love your eclectic style so this piece works out fine! you have used a lot of dark rich fabrics and textures, so the coffee table is no exception! i adore the combination with the chesterfield! oh and the size is perfect too

I think it’s beautiful and how perfect for you with your love of India! I’ve always loved the ottoman/coffee table look and this is more practical than most as it doesn’t have buttons. Your house is very stylish and inspiring.
