A day in Getaria

by Elsa Termenon on August 29, 2010

We’ve had an amazing week in the north of Spain making stops in small cities and villages along the coast of Basque Country, mostly it’s been such pretty weather. But one day we woke up and the sky was cloudy, so we took the car to the small fishermen’s village of Getaria.

The dock smelled of fish and sea. Wonderful!

We wandered the small village streets where the Basque flag was seen everywhere.

My Basque husband! He had to do some important phone calls….

I decided to document the lively street life.

An old lady was waving to me from her balcony. Getaria was showing me it’s most charming side!

I was imagening myself living in a house with a beautiful balcony like this! What a dream…

Then we stopped at a bar for a glas of Txakoli – the famous local white wine that is my absolute favorite! I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that we could have wine before lunch! Vacation!!

Then we went to another bar for another Txakoli and a pintxo, that’s the Basque Country’s version of the Spanish Tapas. The napkin says “Thank You” in Basque.

I was wearing a dress and shoes that kind of made me feel like a school girl on her way to Sunday school. The sweater on the first picture is my moms and was bought at Konsum in Sweden in the 1970′s – I just love it!

It was not the perfect weather but we had the coziest time in that adorable village! I hope to be back soon!
